NURSERY PROGRAM

Early childhood education is an essential step in your child’s journey to ensure   his / her academic success.

Our Nursery Program is designed to encourage a balance between child initiated and teacher facilitated activities stimulating each child’s natural curiosity and interest in learning. Both French and English languages are used. All of the activities provided are age appropriate and take into consideration the children’s attention span and need for variation in mediums. Their schedule is not rigid because young children are easily distracted or bored.

Nursery

The journey from nursery one to three is a progressive one. The students follow a more structured schedule.

Specific areas:

• Language and literacy
  • Communication:
    • Use developmentally appropriate language to express needs, ideas & emotions
    • Retell stories or recent and past experiences
    • Describe objects or places
    • Respond to oral questions with coherent ideas.
  • Phonics
    • explores letter/sound connections
    • Recognizes that a word is formed by group of letters
  • Literacy
    • Uses picture cues to predict story event
    • Demonstrates comprehension of text and narrates it in sequential order
    • Begin to copy write and recognize own name
    • Use scribbles, drawing, shapes and words to represent thoughts and ideas
    • Voluntarily reads and writes with ease

• Mathematics
  • Numbers: From counting to recognition and writing numbers in order then performing simple operations with numbers.
  • Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

• Creative expression
  • Exploring and using media and materials: children sing songs, make music and dance. They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with color, design, texture and form.
  • Being imaginative: children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design, art, music, dance, role-play and stories.

• Discover  the world
  • Children talk about events in their own lives and in the lives of family members. They know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities.
  • They learn about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials, living things and our environment.
  • They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about weather, explore our five senses.

• Physical development& Health
  • Children know the importance of good health and physical exercise, a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe.
  • They manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs successfully, including brushing teeth, dressing, washing hands and going to the toilet independently.

Hours

• Monday- Friday: 8 :30am to 12 :30pm
•  Extracurricular activities:   Monday to Friday: 2:30pm-4pm (optional)

Per day

• The half-day of  4 hours  includes  45minutes  break
• The full-day of  8 hours includes  2 hours break

Parents will receive weekly schedule at enrollment.
